Chino shorts

There are summer days when denim shorts feel too casual and full-length trousers are simply too warm. Chino shorts sit right in between – smart enough for after-work drinks with colleagues, relaxed enough for Saturday. At JACK & JONES, we think they are one of the most underrated pieces in a summer wardrobe and like to call them a must-have for spring and summer.

In our selection of chino shorts, you will find plenty of styles in different fits, colours and lengths, as well as a wide range of sizes.

What sets chino shorts apart from other shorts

The difference is in the fabric and construction. A chino is made from smooth cotton twill rather than denim, has slanted front pockets instead of patch-style jeans pockets, and comes without contrast stitching. The result looks cleaner and slightly more refined.

That is exactly why men's chino shorts work in situations where denim shorts can feel out of place: a summer Casual Friday, dinner on the terrace, or a garden wedding when the dress code allows it. They are the shorts with the widest range of uses.

Which chino-shorts fit is right for you?

Six fits may sound like a lot, but the choice is quickly made:

  • Regular Fit is the all-rounder and by far our largest group – straight-cut, neither tight nor wide.
  • Slim & Tapered Fit is for anyone who prefers a narrower silhouette; Tapered narrows slightly towards the hem for a sportier look.
  • Relaxed, Loose & Baggy Fit go in the other direction: more room, more airflow and a distinctly more laid-back shape.

If you are unsure, start with Regular – from there, you will quickly notice which direction suits you best.

The right length for chino shorts

Most of our chino shorts come in a regular length and finish about a hand's width above the knee. It is a proportion that works well on most legs without looking too short.

There are also knee-length styles. They create a more understated look and are a better choice if you prefer a little more coverage. Find the right size for you in our size guide.

Colours: start with the basics, then have some fun

Beige is the ultimate chino-shorts classic and works with practically any top. Blue, black and grey are equally safe alternatives, while brown and white are a little more distinctive.

Then comes the summer part: green, aqua, yellow, purple and pink. One of these colours is enough in an outfit – keep the rest understated and the look immediately feels intentional. If you are trying a bold colour for the first time, pair it with white. It always works.

How to style men's chino shorts

Pair them with a polo shirt for the smart-casual look these shorts were made for. A lightweight shirt, perhaps worn half unbuttoned over a T-shirt, dresses the outfit up a little more.

For a relaxed day, a simple T-shirt is all you need. Sneakers or loafers are the obvious footwear choices – the main thing is to keep the ankle visible. Socks that come up over the ankle rarely work with shorts.
