Loose Fit Jeans

Some jeans stay on your mind all day because they pinch, pull or feel tight when you sit down. Then there are loose fit jeans. They give your hips, thighs and legs so much room that you forget you're wearing them after five minutes. We'd call that a pretty good reason to choose them.

Explore our loose fit jeans in blue, black, grey, brown and green, from washed and solid-colour denim to ripped styles, with zip flies or button flies. Find out what makes a loose fit different, how it compares with other cuts and how to style it for a laid-back look that still feels put together.

What are loose fit jeans?

Loose fit literally means a relaxed cut. These jeans sit loosely at the hips and seat, with a noticeable gap between your body and the fabric as the legs fall straight down. The legs are roomy without being excessively wide.

The result is maximum freedom of movement and comfort you can feel straight away. With air circulating between your skin and the denim, loose fit jeans can also feel better in warm weather than tighter styles. The relaxed silhouette has become a modern wardrobe essential, and it works with practically every body shape.

How should loose fit jeans fit?

Relaxed doesn't mean shapeless. Keep these three points in mind when choosing your size:

  • Waist: Our loose fit jeans come with high, mid and low rises; many Eddie styles sit high on the waist. The waistband should stay in place without a belt. If you need one just to keep your jeans up, they're too big.
  • Seat and thighs: There should be room here, but not so much excess fabric that it hangs in folds.
  • Length: The leg should meet your shoe with no more than a slight break. A lot of fabric pooling at your ankle is more baggy than loose fit.

Find precise measurements for each style in our size guide, and compare all the different fits in our Jeans Fit Guide.

Which wash should you choose for loose fit jeans?

Our men's loose fit jeans are made from durable cotton-based denim. High-quality fabrics generally drape better in a loose cut than stiff materials, so it's worth checking the fabric when you're buying wider jeans. You'll find the composition of each pair in its product description.

As with any jeans, colour makes a difference. Dark, even washes create a cleaner look and are easy to combine with other clothes. Light washes and vintage finishes emphasise the relaxed attitude of the cut. For a rougher edge, try ripped jeans with distressed details.

Do loose fit jeans suit every body shape?

In most cases, absolutely. The relaxed cut softens areas you may not want to emphasise without looking like you're hiding them, and it accommodates changes in weight. If you have muscular thighs, a loose fit may finally give you jeans that don't pull anywhere. If you're slimmer, the extra volume adds presence to your silhouette. The idea also works for women, whether in boyfriend, mom or baggy cuts. JJXX has its own selection of women's loose fit jeans.

More fits, more choice

Loose fit is just one of the cuts in our jeans collection. Prefer a narrower silhouette? Check out slim or tapered jeans. Want even more room? Explore wide leg styles. And if you're unsure how the fits compare, our Jeans Fit Guide explains the differences. What matters most is finding jeans that feel as though they were made for you.
