Caps

Few accessories are thrown on so casually yet have such an impact on a look. A cap can turn a simple outfit into a statement, save the day after a bad hair moment and keep the sun out of your face at the same time. We think that alone is reason enough to keep more than one in your wardrobe.

In our selection of caps, you will find classic baseball caps in all kinds of designs – plain, with a logo or lettering, in colour combinations and with patterns. All are one size, all have an adjustable closure. And they are so easy to wear that choosing a second colour is an easy decision.

Where does the classic cap actually come from?

The word cap comes from English and simply refers to a type of hat. The term can be traced back to the Latin word “cappa”, which described a general form of headwear. Names such as base cap and baseball cap are also widely used – they all refer to the same practical style of headwear.

The peak has sporting roots: it emerged in American baseball in the mid-19th century. Teams such as the Brooklyn Excelsiors originally wore wool caps with visors to shield their eyes from the sun. While the basic design has barely changed since then, the cap has long since moved from the sports field into everyday and streetwear culture.

The key cap styles at a glance

Once you start looking at caps, you quickly come across a handful of specialist terms. Here is the short version:

  • 6 Panel Cap: the classic construction made from six fabric panels with a slightly rounded crown. The standard everything else is measured against.
  • 5 Panel Cap: a flatter, more angular front made from five panels – with a slightly sportier feel.
  • Snapback Caps: caps with a snap closure at the back, so the fit can be adjusted.
  • Fitted Cap: a model in a fixed hat size with no adjustment, typically between sizes 6 and 8.
  • Dad Cap: a soft, unstructured crown with a gently curved peak.

Our styles use a one-size design with an adjustable closure, so the cap can be fitted to practically any head size without measuring first.

Which cap colour works for what?

Black, grey and beige are the three colours that work with almost any outfit. White feels fresh in summer, but it is also the colour that needs the most care. Brown and green take the look in a calmer, more earthy direction.

Then there are red and blue. Both are statement colours – one of them in an outfit is plenty, while the rest can stay more understated.

Caps and sunshine: the practical side

The peak is not just there for decoration. It helps keep direct light off your face, reduces glare and shades your forehead and eye area – a noticeable difference in summer, and just as useful on bright winter days when the sun sits low. In the rain, it directs water forward instead of letting it run down your face.

Anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors will appreciate that. Everyone else usually notices after the first long day without any headwear.

Materials and what to look for

Most caps are made from cotton or cotton blends – breathable, shape-retaining and easy to care for. Mesh panels at the back add extra ventilation, which can make a real difference on warm days. Depending on the season, headwear can also come in warmer materials such as wool, while some styles feature leather details.

The exact material of each style is always listed in the product description. It is worth checking before you choose your size and colour.

How a cap should fit

The band should sit evenly around your head without feeling tight. If it leaves a mark on your forehead when you take it off, it is adjusted too tightly; if it slips when you lean forward, it is too loose. The right fit is somewhere in between. The peak points forwards. Everything else is a styling choice you can make for yourself.

Styling caps for everyday wear

With shorts and a T-shirt in summer, with a hoodie on the way to the gym, or with jeans and a long-sleeved top in autumn: a cap is one of the few accessories that is hard to get wrong.

A small trick for a more pulled-together outfit: pick up a colour from your top or your shorts. That way the cap looks considered rather than like something you added at random.

Cap care, briefly explained

Important: caps do not belong in the washing machine – the drum can push the peak out of shape. Spot-clean stains with lukewarm water, a little mild detergent and a soft brush, then leave the cap to air-dry. Do not place it on a radiator. For storage, it is best to lay it flat or hang it up rather than folding it into a bag.
