Boys’ jackets

A good boys’ jacket has to do a lot: allow freedom of movement, handle rain, stand up to bike rides & ideally look cool too. At JACK & JONES KIDS, we know how quickly kids’ clothes get put to the test, so our range includes styles made to keep up with everyday life.

In our selection of boys’ jackets, you’ll find what you need for every season: lightweight transitional jackets for spring & autumn, padded puffer jackets for winter & plenty of options in between for school, sport & downtime. Durable, warm & easy to wear – just right for everyday life.

Which boys’ jacket for which season

Spring & autumn call for lightweight transitional jackets – lightly padded, wind- & rain-resistant, but not too warm. In summer, a light rain jacket is often enough. Winter calls for a proper puffer jacket, ideally with a hood & a fleece or synthetic lining.

Most kids rarely need more than three jackets a year: one transitional jacket, one winter jacket & one lightweight rain jacket. Choose those three well & you’re covered for most weather.

Puffer jackets – the winter classic

A puffer jacket is the go-to choice for properly cold days. It can be padded with synthetic filling or down on the inside, with a water-repellent outer layer. For kids, synthetic styles are often the practical option – they are lighter, washable & generally more affordable to buy.

For the winter school run, the trip to sports practice or an afternoon in the park, a puffer jacket is one of the most reliable layers. It keeps kids warm without making them feel overly bundled up.

Transitional jackets for spring & autumn

A good transitional jacket for boys is lightweight but helps block wind & rain. Hooded styles are almost always a smart choice for kids – that sudden afternoon shower can arrive before they make it home.

For the in-between seasons, brighter or more noticeable colours are worth considering. They can make your child easier to spot in traffic – an often-overlooked advantage during the darker months.

Sport & downtime: the right boys’ jacket

For active days, breathable jackets are a strong choice. Softshell & lightweight fleece styles move with the child instead of holding them back. For everyday wear, a standard jacket is often enough – kids rarely want to wear a sports jacket to school every day.

For very active kids, a two-jacket setup can make sense: one sports jacket for football, bike rides or walks in the woods, plus an everyday jacket for school & family visits.

Boys’ jackets: choosing the right colour

Black, navy, grey & green are classic colours for boys’ jackets & are usually easy to find in the range. Brighter shades such as red, blue or yellow can also improve visibility in traffic & fit naturally with the playful look of our boys’ jackets.

A practical tip: having one darker & one lighter jacket in rotation covers plenty of outfits & weather conditions. One works for smarter occasions, the other for active afternoons.

Hood, zip, cuffs – jacket details

On a kids’ jacket, the small details can matter as much as the fabric. A hood with a drawcord helps in windy weather, a two-way zip can make getting dressed easier & cuffs at the sleeves help keep the cold out.

For younger children, hook-and-loop adjusters at the sleeves can be more practical than elastic cuffs. They can be adjusted as your child grows.

Boys’ jackets: finding the right size

Kids grow fast. A jacket that fits exactly today can be too small after one season. A practical approach is to choose around half a size up so there is some room for growth. Going too big is not ideal either – sleeves should not hang over the hands. Check the size guide.

Caring for & washing boys’ jackets

Kids’ jackets get dirty – that is part of everyday life. Washing at 30 degrees is enough in most cases. Down-filled puffer jackets need a suitable detergent & a gentle tumble-dryer programme so the filling does not clump together.

Synthetic jackets are easier to care for – they handle a normal wash well & dry faster. For families with several children, that practicality is often why synthetic styles appear more often in the Kids wardrobe than down-filled options.

Boys’ jackets: more visibility in traffic

For the school run in autumn & winter, visibility matters more than almost any other detail. Reflective elements on sleeves, back or hood help make kids easier to see in traffic. If you choose a completely dark jacket, a reflective patch or visibility vest is a useful addition for the journey to school.

Alongside reflectors, brighter colours are a simple extra option. A vivid green, strong blue or red can make your child easier to spot in low light. Kids are often more open to those colours than adults.
