HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SUIT
Party season is almost here! But before you welcome it with a new wardrobe, consider the suit. Broken up or worn complete – it can handle everything in your calendar. In this guide we'll let you in on some useful advice how to care for it.
DRY CLEAN SUIT AT HOME
Dry cleaning is harsh and will reduce the life of suits or men's dressing gown. Only do it when it's absolutely necessary. That said most marks can be treated with just water and a soft towel. Make sure to treat it immediately and blot rather than rub. For shirts, exchange the water for detergent and then wash at 30°C.
Your suit needs to breathe after prolonged use or a few hours in say a sweaty nightclub. Hang it in a well-ventilated room for at least a day. The fibres will release lingering odours and return to their original shape. For best results, invest in a soft-bristled fabric brush and brush lightly after every wear.
You probably know that your suit needs to be hung, but stay clear of wire hangers. Instead use the plastic or wooden variety with moulded shoulders to best maintain your blazer's shape. And giving your suit the wardrobe-space it deserves will keep it wrinkle free – ready for your next wear.
Iron with care, placing a white cloth over the fabric. However, steaming is preferred. If you don't own a suit steam cleaner but have a shower or a bath (guessing you do), all is not lost. Simply hang your suit in a closed, steam-filled bathroom. In extreme situations get it pressed at the cleaners. Now you're ready to own a suit. Get it here.
