Basic T-Shirts
Some clothes stand out. Others make it possible for the rest of your outfit to stand out. The basic T-shirt belongs to the second group – simple essentials for easy looks, as we see it – and that is exactly why it is one of the most-worn pieces in most wardrobes.
Our selection of basic T-shirts comes in a wide range of colours, versatile fits and different necklines – from timeless basics to practical multipacks for every day. Find the styles that suit you and discover your new favourite tees.
What does basic T-shirt mean?
Basic does not describe a material or a level of quality, but an approach: one colour or minimal detailing, a classic neckline and no print demanding attention. A T-shirt that lets the rest of the outfit lead – the opposite of our printed T-shirts, where the graphic is the main feature.
That is exactly where its strength lies. Basic T-shirts work with almost everything – with jeans, under an open shirt, under a blazer at the office or on their own in summer. When you do not want to think too much in the morning, this is the piece you reach for.
Which basic T-shirt fit is right for you?
Five fits, five different effects. Regular Fit is the straight classic among basic T-shirts, with an even amount of room throughout, and it is our biggest group – the most versatile modern choice for everyday wear. Slim Fit sits closer to the body and looks more structured, especially under an open shirt or a blazer.
At the other end are Wide Fit and Oversize Fit, with more volume and boxier proportions. Stretch Fit adds elasticity to the fabric for greater freedom of movement while keeping a close fit.
Our tip if you are unsure: start with Regular. From there, it is easy to work out which direction suits you best – you can compare the fits of all our basic T-shirts in the size guide.
Crew neck, V-neck or collar
The crew neck is the standard choice and by far the most common in our range. It works with almost any outfit. A V-neck opens up the neckline and visually lengthens the silhouette – a good option when you wear the T-shirt on its own. We also offer styles with a polo collar and a few with a mandarin collar. Both make a simple outfit look slightly sharper without feeling overdone.
Material: what really matters
Cotton is the foundation of the basic T-shirt for good reason: it feels soft against the skin, breathes well and is easy to wear. If you tend to get warm quickly, natural fibres and a medium fabric weight are a good place to start.
Fabric weight is the detail people often underestimate. Lightweight fabrics below roughly 150 g/m² are ideal for hot days, although white versions can be more see-through. Midweight fabrics between 150 and 180 g/m² are more opaque and hard-wearing – the all-round choice that works for most people. Anything above 200 g/m² hangs more heavily, tends to last longer and keeps its shape better.
So if you want a T-shirt that still looks good after two years, fabric weight can matter more than the cut.
How many basic T-shirts do you need?
For most people, five to seven is enough: two white, two black or grey, then two or three in the colours you already wear most often. That gets you through a normal week without needing to do laundry every other day.
For year-round use, add one or two long-sleeve T-shirts for the cooler months – the same simple idea, just with longer sleeves.
Multipacks are the easiest way to build that foundation – ours come in packs of 2, 3 and 5. And when one T-shirt is worn out after a couple of years, you can replace that one instead of rebuilding the whole stack.
