Oversized T-Shirts
An oversized T-shirt is not simply a T-shirt in the wrong size. That is the best place to start any conversation about the fit, because it is exactly what decides whether the outfit looks intentional or like a sizing mistake. With our oversized T-shirts, the volume is built into the design: a wider body, a boxier shape and deliberately dropped shoulders.
What does oversized mean for T-shirts?
Oversized describes a specific cut, not a size. The body is wider, the armholes are deeper and the shoulder seam is designed to sit beyond the natural shoulder line. This allows the fabric to fall straight down instead of following the body.
You cannot recreate the same effect by buying a regular T-shirt two sizes bigger. Everything grows at once – the length, neckline and sleeves too. The result hangs in the wrong places and looks simply too big rather than intentionally loose. A true oversized cut is therefore the better choice.
What size should you choose in an oversized T-shirt?
This is the most common question, and the answer is simple: your usual size. The extra room is already built into the cut. Sizing up again can quickly leave you with sleeves past the elbows and a hem halfway down the thigh.
Two checks help. The shoulder seams should sit clearly below the natural shoulder line – but not halfway to the elbow. And the hem should ideally finish just below the waistband: short enough to keep the proportions balanced, but long enough that nothing rides up when you lift your arms.
If you are between sizes, choose the smaller one in an oversized fit. The cut already gives you the width, while the larger size mainly adds length – exactly where a loose T-shirt can start looking unfinished. Our styles come in sizes for different body types; find the exact measurements in our size guide.
How to style an oversized T-shirt: the proportion rule
How do you wear an oversized T-shirt? With contrast. That is the whole rule. A wider shape on top usually works best with something more streamlined below, otherwise your proportions can disappear completely.
That is why an oversized T-shirt works immediately with slim-cut jeans. If you prefer loose with loose – oversized on top with baggy jeans – create some balance: tuck the front of the T-shirt loosely into the waistband, roll the sleeves once and choose shoes with a little more presence. That way the outfit carries the volume instead of getting lost in it.
Three small styling moves that make a big difference
Speaking of tucking, a few simple tricks have an outsized effect on loose-fitting T-shirts:
The French tuck – only the front of the hem goes into the waistband while the rest stays out – adds definition at the waist without losing the relaxed drape. Rolling each sleeve once also adds structure to an otherwise very soft silhouette.
Layering helps too. An open shirt or overshirt over the T-shirt gives the outfit more depth without changing the fit underneath.
All three take seconds and cost nothing. That is a pretty good return.
Fabric and feel in an oversized T-shirt
Cotton is the standard here, and for good reason. It is breathable, helps regulate temperature and tends to soften a little more with every wash.
With a looser cut, there is another benefit you really notice in summer: because the fabric does not cling to the body, air can circulate and the T-shirt feels lighter even when it is warm. With shorts in high summer, that is exactly the kind of combination you want. Heavier fabrics, on the other hand, drape more steadily and tend to hold their shape better through the day. Colours and prints in our selection
Black and white are our two biggest colour groups, and they are also a good place to start if oversized fits are new to you. They work with almost anything and let the shape of the T-shirt do the talking.
Beige and brown take the look in a warmer, calmer direction. Green, blue, grey and pink add colour without becoming too loud. One thing to remember with this fit: a wide T-shirt shows much more fabric than a slim one. The same colour can therefore feel stronger, while a print gets more space – both are good reasons to keep the lower half quieter when the T-shirt already makes a statement.
For graphics, a back print is one of the most interesting options – clean at the front, with the message at the back. You will also find text designs, stripes and classic plain styles, which make up the largest part of our selection.
Who are oversized T-shirts for?
Oversized T-shirts are often designed with a unisex feel, which means they work across many different body shapes. They do not need to hide or emphasise anything – they simply create a clean, relaxed surface across the upper body.
That is what makes them so easy to rely on: for training, days off, summer with shorts, city walks with trainers or under an open hoodie on cooler evenings. Few pieces slip this easily into outfits you already own.
One final tip if oversized fits are new to you: start with a plain style in your usual size and wear it with a pair of trousers you already know well. You will quickly feel whether the extra volume suits you – and which direction you want to take your next T-shirt.
